PRP Aventura - the treatment with no side effects?

PRP Aventura

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy can be considered to be a way of self-healing, simply because it uses the patient’s own stem cells to heal their body and works on the principles of the body’s own natural healing capabilities.

Many of our patients of PRP in Aventura found PRP to be a great alternative to invasive surgery. One of the reasons is that the side effects of PRP injections are very limited as it is the patient’s own blood that is utilised. In most of the cases they show no negative reaction to it because the body recognises it as their own. The risks associated with PRP are also minimal; an increased pain at the injection site is sometimes unavoidable, but the incidence of any other post-injection-related problems such as infection, tissue damage, nerve injuries, appear to be no different from that associated with cortisone injections.

So far so good! So what does the PRP Aventura treatment looks like?

The first step in performing PRP therapy it is always to obtain a sample of the patient’s blood. As part of the preparation, one to a few tubes of the patient’s own blood must be collected. This always takes place by using a strict aseptic technique. The blood, after being centrifuged, has a tendency to separate the platelets (platelets are the major clotting tool in your blood but they are also rich in proteins called growth factors) which we will then inject into the patient’s own abnormal tissue. As a result the platelets release growth factors that recruit and increase the proliferation of reparative cells. In other words, platelet rich plasma is the body’s natural way to heal injuries. Platelet rich plasma (PRP in Aventura) is taken from the patient’s own blood, so it literally uses the body’s own cells to promote its own healing process. The body is able to repair itself more quickly simply by increasing the number of platelets in the area of injury. The healing process with begin faster and to a better degree - than if left untreated.

PRP Aventura - which conditions which can be treated with PRP?

Clinical studies have demonstrated that PRP injections have the ability to improve function and decreased pain for various conditions, including - but not limited to - wrist, elbow, shoulder, knee, hip and ankle tendonosis. It was noticed that early work also shows promise for osteoarthritis. Interesting fact: It is known that famous athletes such as Tiger Woods or Rafael Nadal have undergone PRP treatment for various sport injuries including sprained knees and chronic tendon injuries. Usually, these types of conditions are treated with medications, physical therapy, and in extreme cases - even surgery. It is worth noting that PRP Aventura may also be used to improve healing after surgery for some injuries.

PRP Aventura - How many injections per treatment? And what is the cost of the treatment?

The number of injections necessary for the treatment to be considered successful and complete varies and it is ultimately decided on a case-by-case basis. The physician will use the MRI or Ultrasound results to determine the number of injections. In most cases the physician will suggest between 1 to 3 injections. The cost of Platelet Rich Plasma treatment varies based on number of injections you receive.
